Generating Search Results

On the Results tab of the Advanced Search pane, you can use filters to find specific imagery in your area of interest (AOI). Images you select appear in the viewport and you can use them to generate a mashup or export a shapefile (see Working with Selected Images).

Advanced Search Results Tab

  1. On the header bar, select My Imagery > Advanced Search.

  2. In the viewport, select the Draw Polygon icon .

  3. Select an option from the menu to define an area of interest (AOI).

    • Draw an AOI Select Draw a Polygon, Drag a Rectangle, or Draw a 12km x 12km AOI. In the viewport, use the cursor to draw an area of interest.

      Draw a 12km x 12km AOI is available at zoom level 7 or higher.

    • Enter Well-Known-Text Select Enter WKT. In the dialog that opens, paste your AOI in WKT format from a source application, then select Search.

    • Upload a Shapefile Select Upload Shapefile. In the dialog that opens, select the shapefile you want to upload, then select Upload.

      When creating an AOI from a shapefile, the following restrictions apply:

      • No self-intersecting polygons.
      • Only individual polygons should be included in a shapefile.
      • No shapes with fewer than four vertices (e.g., single points, lines, triangles), and not exceeding 1000 vertices.
      • No projections other than EPSG:4326 ("WGS84") and UTM (for every zone).
      • Must be a ZIP file.
    • Use the Viewport as the AOI Select Use Map Viewport. The current viewport becomes your AOI.

    The Advanced Search viewport zooms to your defined AOI. Any imagery that intersects with your AOI appears in the Results tab.

    Alternatively, you can draw an AOI in the viewport. When you select the Draw Tools icon , from the menu, select Continue to Advanced Search. The Advanced Search pane zooms directly to the AOI you drew.

  4. (Optional) Select the Catalog Filter icon , then select the type of imagery you want to view in the image list (e.g., online, archive, stereo archive). The image list updates.

    You can only show one image type on the Results tab at a time. If you want to use multiple image types in your shapefile or mashup, select the images you want before changing the Catalog Filter.

  5. (Optional) Select the Filters icon . The Filters dialog opens. Select options from each section to narrow down your image results. Select Apply, or select Reset to return the filter settings to their defaults.

    When you apply filter settings, the checkbox next to the filter's name is automatically selected. If you want to remove a filter, clear the checkbox next to the filter's name.

    The Filters icon is available on both tabs, but filters only apply to images on the Results tab. After images are added to the Selected tab you can clear the checkbox, but you cannot use a filter to narrow down those images.

    • Acquisition Date / Time of Day Date and time ranges for when the image was acquired.

      The time of day filter applies only to the Online imagery catalog.

      The time of day filter does not return mosaic imagery.

      Be sure to format date and time ranges correctly.

      • Acquisition Date Format (yyyy-mm-dd)

        • Use the calendar picker to automatically format dates.

        • Date formats such as dd-mm-yyyy are not accepted.

      • Time of Day Format HH:MM AM/PM

        • Time ranges must be entered manually.

        • You must include AM or PM. Enter a space between the time and AM or PM (e.g., 08:17 AM, 12:42 PM).

        • Time ranges must use 12-hour format. 24-hour format is not accepted.

      You will receive an error if you format a date or time range incorrectly.

    • Cloud Cover The maximum cloud cover percentage. (0%–50%)

      The cloud cover filter applies to the entire strip, not your area of interest. Using this filter may filter out strips that have good coverage over your area but are cloudy elsewhere.

    • Source The source(s) you want to use for the imagery.

      Third-party data sources will be available if they are turned on for your account.

    • Sensor Type Select the Maxar sensor(s). (Satellite, Aerial, Radar)

    • Content Type Selections depend on your subscription. Generally, select from mosaics vs. strips.

    • NIIRS The NIIRS value. (0–7.0)

    • Max GSD The maximum ground sample distance. (5m–30cm)

    • Image Bands Select one or more image band types.

    • Off Nadir Angle A range for the off nadir angle. (0°–60°)

    • Sun Elevation A range for the sun elevation angle. (0°–90°)

    • Target Azimuth A range for the target azimuth. (0°–360°)

  6. After you refine your results, select the images you want to use for your mashup or shapefile.

    Only the images you selected appear in the viewport.

  7. Select Select.

More Information

  • If you want to make new selections, select Clear to remove all of the selections on the Results tab. After you select an image, you must remove it from the Selected tab. See Working with Selected Images.

  • Redrawing the AOI reinitializes the Advanced Search workflow and resets the search results.

  • Select the Image Menu next to any image to perform additional tasks, such as viewing an image's metadata. See Using the Image Menu.
