Adding Imagery to the Library

You can add a full image to your library from Advanced Search, the Carousel, or a project. See Advanced Search, Working with Imagery in the Carousel, or Projects.

1. Select the Image Menu associated with the image you want to save, then select Add Full Image to Library.

   The Add Full Image to Library dialog opens.

   	If you are saving an image from Advanced Search or from a project, the Image Menu appears next to the image you want to save. If you are saving an image from the Carousel, it will appear when you hover over the image thumbnail.

2. In the File Name field, enter a name for the file.

   	Do not use special characters in file names. Special characters can prevent you from downloading files from your library, or may cause errors when downloading imagery. Maxar replaces special characters with underscores.

3. Select additional options for your image's Format, Compression, Projection, Resolution, and Interpolation.

   More Information

   • Format An image format supported by your exploitation tool. This format will be used when the image is delivered to your library. Depending on your account and the type of item you are saving, format options may include:

     • GeoTIFF (compressed) JPEG compression with YCbCr color space and 95% quality

     • JPEG Compressed format with a small file size; suitable for inserting into PowerPoint and documents

     • MrSid Compressed 15:1; a good choice for large areas where file size is an issue

     • JPEG2000 Compressed; a good choice for large areas where file size is an issue

     • GeoPDF A georeferenced PDF for use in tools that can read that format

     • NITF 2.1 (NPJE JP2 4:1) Embedded metadata; useful for military applications that require this format

     • NITF 2.1 (NPJE JP2 15:1) Embedded metadata; useful for military applications that require this format and when file size is too large with 4:1 compression

     • RPF 0.5 Meter, 1 Meter, or 5 Meter Suitable for those who need a CIB-like replacement

   • Compression The compression option for packaging files. Options include TAR (for Linux/Unix or Max) or ZIP (for Windows).

   • Projection The projection type, which defines how the satellite imagery is mapped to the earth. Options include:

     • Geographic Uses a three-dimensional spherical surface to define locations on the earth

     • UTM Uses a 2-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system to give locations on the surface of the Earth.

   • Resolution The image quality. Options include full resolution (best quality) or screen resolution (lower quality).

   • Interpolation The image processing type. Options include Nearest Neighbor, Bilinear, or Bicubic.

4. (Optional) If you are saving an image from the Carousel and you have cloudless mode turned on, select whether or not to clip the clouds in your saved image.

5. (Optional) If you want to receive email notifications with updates about the status of the library job, select the checkbox.

   	This option is not available if you have not provided an email address in your user profile.

6. Select Add to Library.

   	If you have access to image ordering, you can select More Ordering Options. The dialog changes to Add Image to Cart. See Ordering Archive Imagery.

1. Do one of the following:
   • Advanced Search Select the images you want to use for the mashup and optionally rearrange them in the pane. On the Selected tab, in the With Selected drop-down menu, select Create Mashup.

   • Projects Open an Online project in Project Edit mode (see Editing a Project). Select the Actions button, then select Create Mashup.

     	Mashups cannot be created from Archive projects.

   The Create Mashup dialog opens. The mashup samples the best GSD of the selected images.

2. In the File Name field, enter a name for the file.

3. Select additional options for your image's Format, Compression, and Projection.

   	Mashups are always full resolution.

5. Select Add to Library.

   	A mashup created with only online images may be available in minutes or hours. However, mashups that include archive imagery (Advanced Search only) may take up to several days to fulfill and appear in your library.

You can add a movie to your library from the Carousel.

1. Zoom to level 13 or higher.
2. In the Carousel, select two or more images that you want to use in your movie.

3. Do one of the following, depending on your Carousel orientation:

   • If your Carousel is Horizontal In the With Selected drop-down menu, select Compare.
   • If your Carousel is Vertical Select the drop-down arrow , then select Compare.

   The Compare slider appears above the Carousel toolbar (or next to it, if your Carousel is vertical).

4. Do one of the following, depending on your Carousel orientation:
   • If your Carousel is Horizontal In the With Selected drop-down menu, select Export to Movie.
   • If your Carousel is Vertical Select the drop-down arrow , then select Export to Movie.

   The New Movie dialog opens.

5. In the File Name field, enter a name for the file.

6. Select additional options for the movie's Format, Compression, Resolution, Transition Rate, and Direction.

   More Information

   • Format Select a format for your movie based on the quality you want and the size of the file. MPEG4 are lower quality, smaller files; MOV and AVI are full quality, larger files.
   • Compression The compression option for packaging files. Options include TAR (for Linux/Unix or Max) or ZIP (for Windows).
   • Resolution Make a selection based on how you will use the output file. Larger resolutions are good for presentations or full-screen movies, while smaller resolutions may be better for online videos.
   • Transition Rate Select the number of seconds each image is shown before it fades into the next image.
   • Direction Select the order in which the images appear. Options include oldest to newest or newest to oldest.
7. (Optional) Select Preview to view your movie before saving it.
8. Select Add to Library.

You can generate and download tilesets of imagery at zoom levels 9–20 for use in disconnected environments. You can download and view your tileset via Google Earth, a My DigitalGlobe Lite web viewer (included in the download), or any device that supports OGC GeoPackage format. See Opening Downloaded Tilesets.

There are two main ways to create a tileset: drawing an AOI, or using the Tilesets/GeoPackage dialog. You will define the tileset's settings in the New Tileset Settings dialog.

1. Do one of the following, depending on if you want to create a tileset by drawing an AOI or by using the Tilesets/GeoPackage dialog.

   Create a Tileset/GeoPackage by Drawing an AOI

   1. Zoom to level 9 or higher.

   2. In the viewport, select the Draw Polygon icon .

   3. Select an option from the menu to define an area of interest (AOI).

      The Draw Tools icon appears.

   4. Select the Draw Tools icon . From the menu, select Create a Tileset/GeoPackage. The New Tileset Settings dialog opens.

   1. Zoom to level 9 or higher.

   2. On the header bar, select My Imagery > Tilesets/GeoPackage. The Tilesets/GeoPackage dialog opens.

   3. Do one of the following:

      • Select Cells Select Select Cells. The Select Cells pane opens. Use the cursor to select individual cells for your AOI. Alternatively, select Drag to Select to draw a rectangle and select multiple cells. Select Save. (Available at zoom level 7 or higher.)
      • Draw a Rectangle Select Draw a Rectangle. In the viewport, use the cursor to draw an area of interest.
      • Use the Viewport as the AOI Select Use Map Viewport. The current viewport becomes your AOI.

      • Upload Shapefile Select Upload Shapefile. In the dialog that opens, select the shapefile you want to upload, then select Upload.

2. In the New Tileset Settings dialog, in the File Name field, give your tileset a name.

3. Select additional options for zoom level, file format, package format, and projection.

   More Information

   • Start/End Zoom Level The default zoom level is 13. Increasing the range increases processing time and download file size.

   • File Format Options include JPG and PNG.

     	JPG format is compressed, and PNG format is not compressed. This makes JPG files smaller and easier to download than PNG files.

   • Package Format The output type for the tileset. Options include:

     • TAR (EPSG:3857, EPSG:4326, or EPSG:3395)
     • GeoPackage format (EPSG:3857, EPSG:4326, or EPSG:3395)
     • GeoPackage NSG Profile (EPSG:4326)

     	If you select TAR format, the system generates a .kml file to view the tileset within Google Earth, as well as a MyDG-Lite.html file to view the tileset using My DigitalGlobe Lite. See Opening Downloaded Tilesets.

   • Projection The projection type, which defines how the satellite imagery is mapped to the earth.

4. (Optional) If you want to receive email notifications with updates about the status of the library job, select the checkbox.

   	This option is not available if you have not provided an email address in your user profile.

5. Select Save.
6. (Optional) If your tileset is large, at the warning prompt, select Yes, then select Save.
